Connection seeds dignity.

Mary, Store to Door’s office manager, remembers experiencing a discrepancy in connecting the staff, volunteers, and clients. Each week, Mary and program staff and volunteers would have wonderful conversations and hear stories from clients, forging relationships. On delivery days, clients were visited by the same delivery drivers, often for years on end.

However, despite these regular connections, something was still missing. While clients got to know those directly serving them, they were still somewhat disconnected from the broader Store to Door community. “There were no faces. There were no pictures […] it felt like we’re separate, and I wanted a way for the clients to learn about other people at Store to Door besides their driver or their order taker.”

To bridge this connection gap, Mary embodied and encouraged the experience of dignity when she created a monthly newsletter for the clients. The newsletter features a staff and volunteer person each month, offers helpful insights on the order-taking process, as well as other information that clients might not easily access. Connecting people is how Mary enables dignity.
